Good for your bill, good for California
Power in California is most expensive between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., when demand peaks. In the middle of the day, solar is abundant and cheap. Shifting EV charging into those hours lowers what energy providers pay for power, which puts downward pressure on rates for every customer, not just EV drivers.
